Our History

Where We’ve Been

Hopewell Church came out of the Rock Church, a small Mennonite congregation in Morgantown. The church was originally named “Hopewell Mennonite Church” and in 2002 became “Hopewell Christian Fellowship.” The building (on this site) was built and dedicated in

May of 1974. The land was purchased from Wilmer Kraybill, one of the founders of the church, for $1.00. At the dedication of the new building the congregation prayed:

“We set apart this house to the worship of God the Father and to the service of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Here shall the Gospel of Christ be proclaimed and taught for the salvation of men and the nurture of saints. May many be born into the kingdom here continuously until the Lord comes again.”

In the 1980’s the congregation grew to almost 1,000 people. Throughout that season, several churches were planted in outlying areas. Later, the Hopewell Network of Churches was established. In 2019, the church was renamed, “Hopewell Church.” The church is now considered a non-denominational church and remains a part of the Hopewell Network.

Our History

In 2024, Hopewell celebrated 50 years of life and ministry. To commemorate this milestone, this documentary was produced to capture our story, honor the men and women who built this church, and remember God's faithfulness through the years.
