Most of us have enjoyed a delicious Auntie Anne's soft pretzel without knowing the story behind the company's founders - Jonas and Anne Beiler. Their life together began peacefully, but their young marriage was shattered with the death of their 19 month old daughter.
Anne found herself depressed and on the brink of suicide. Not knowing how to talk about the deep pain they were both experiencing, Jonas and Anne drifted apart. They remained silent partners who simply lived together and went throught the motions of family life. Anne sought counsel from her pastor, who used the vulnerability of her grief to manipulate and control her for more than six years. After confessing the manipulation to Jonas, they sought counseling and reconciled as God restored their marriage.
Through their pain their purpose was born. Realizing others also lived with the same despair and hopelessness, Jonas wanted to provide hope through counseling. To support his vision, Anne began working at a local farmer's market stand which later became Auntie Anne's Soft Pretzels. It grew to become the world's largest, mall-based franchise. In just over 20 years the company has grown to more than 1,000 locations in 21 nations.
